Buildertrend learning curve

Buildertrend too complex for your team to actually adopt?

Buildertrend was built for custom-home builders running 6-month projects with architects, owners, and subs in constant coordination. If you're running 1-2 week jobs with a crew of 5, that depth becomes friction. Field techs don't use it; admins spend hours on data entry; reports take training to interpret. Vexor was built around the shape of trade contractor work — jobs that take days to weeks, not quarters.

What this is costing you

Buildertrend's Essential plan is $499/mo flat. Vexor's Field is $99/mo with the workflow trade crews actually run. That's $4,560/year back, plus the hidden cost of "the team won't use the software" — which is usually the bigger loss.

  1. 01

Map your top 5 weekly workflows

What does your crew DO every week? (Quote, schedule, clock in, daily log, photo, invoice.) That's the surface area you need; everything else is feature noise.

  2. 02

    Free trial Vexor

No credit card. Field covers crew scheduling + time clock + JSA + photos + daily logs. Operations adds invoicing + profit + client portal.

  3. 03

    Export Buildertrend customers + jobs

Buildertrend has a CSV export under account settings. Customers, jobs, and selection items export.

  4. 04

Train ONE person on Vexor for a day

Pick your most software-skeptical office person. If they can use it in a day, the rest will too.

  5. 05

Cut new jobs over to Vexor

Existing Buildertrend projects finish where they started. New work comes into Vexor.

Frequently asked

Is Vexor as deep as Buildertrend?

No — and that's the point. Buildertrend has selection sheets, customer warranties, lead management, takeoff integrations, and bid invitations. If you need those, stay on Buildertrend. If your team is asking "why is everything so many clicks," Vexor is built for the shorter workflow.

Will I lose selection sheets / warranties?

Yes — those are not in Vexor. If they're core to how you sell custom homes, Buildertrend is the right product. If they're used occasionally, Vexor's documents + change-order workflow can cover the same ground manually.

What about subcontractor portals?

Vexor includes free read-only sub + GC portals on every plan. Buildertrend's sub portal is similar; Vexor's is simpler.

Can my team actually adopt Vexor?

Most contractors report office team productivity inside a week and field team productivity inside a day. The crew app is intentionally small: clock in, see today's job, upload photo, sign JSA, message office.
