General Liability Insurance

Insurance covering third-party bodily injury and property damage claims arising from the contractor's work.

General liability (GL) is the foundational business insurance for contractors. It covers damage you cause to someone else's property and injuries to non-employees (workers' comp covers employees). GCs typically require subs to carry $1M/$2M GL policies before allowing them on the job. Certificate of Insurance (COI) is the document a sub provides to prove coverage. Many GCs require to be named as "additional insured" on the sub's policy.
