PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)

Equipment worn to minimize exposure to hazards — hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, harnesses, respirators.

PPE is the last line of defense in the hierarchy of hazard controls (elimination, substitution, engineering controls, administrative controls, PPE). OSHA 1910 Subpart I covers PPE requirements. Required PPE varies by trade: fall protection harnesses for roofers, dielectric gloves for electricians, respirators for concrete work generating silica dust. A JSA typically specifies the required PPE per task.
